How

Our concept is modern, ambitious and most importantly, realistic. Transylvania Basketball Tournament is the first international university basketball competition based in Romania. In addition, we are the only non-profit basketball tournament with an international community organized within Central and Eastern Europe. We strive to maintain a certain level of quality, thus ensuring all participants, including spectators, benefit from a high-level event. We provide the perfect environment for basketball enthusiasts who are looking to both compete and have a great time in the process! At this point, participating teams support their costs in full, from the tournament tax to accommodation. However, we are continuously looking for sponsors and partners to cover some of these costs. In addition, all of our proposed deals and fees are heavily negotiated so as to lower all costs as much as possible.

Where

Brasov - Romania

Wander its maze of streets, stopping for caffeine injections at bohemian cafes between losing yourself in a beguiling coalescence of Austro-Hungarian gingerbread roofs, baroque gods, medieval spires and Soviet flat-tops. Or just casually stay in one place and drink. The city's centerpiece square for example (Piata Sfatului), a people-watcher's mecca, is the perfect place for that! Either way, there are so many things to see and taste that you will never run out of things to do. Brasov is filled with both domestic and foreign tourists happily enjoying their time in what is known as Romania’s green capital. As the city is surrounded by mountains and forests, you have the chance to explore the wilderness on the hundreds of hiking trails available or enjoy casual wood made barbecues if you’re just feeling lazy. It’s not just the city, as the surroundings are also equally attractive. For example, Rasnov Fortress and Bran Castle (Dracula’s Castle) are only 20-30 minutes away. Like animals? Brasov hosts the biggest brown bear reservation in Eastern Europe among others. The entire region of Brasov is so nice that even Prince Charles has a house here and visits every year!

TBT 2017

Here's to round two.

Transylvania Basketball Tournament 2017 can be easily summarized in three words: bigger, better, longer. More teams, more competition, new locations, a new format and last but not least, more matches to play and see. The event will take place in Brasov, Romania, same as last year, in the biggest and most modern sports facility in the region, with matches beginning on the 7th and finishing on the 10th of June. However, this year, we have prepared a special surprise for all participants. Ever played indoor basketball on top of a mountain, at 1300 metres altitude? Well now’s your chance. TBT 2017 will feature both Men’s and Women’s events. The Men’s competition is made up of eight teams divided into two groups, followed by knockout rounds. In the Women’s event there will be a single group made out of four teams, followed by knockout rounds as well. Each team will play a minimum of four matches, respectively five should they qualify for the final rounds. Referees, match staff, medical assistance and water are included in the participation fee.

FIRST OF MANY – 2016

THE VIBES

Transylvania Basketball Tournament 2016 was a complete success and we have created a strong base for what is to come. However, a competition with our format should be ever-evolving. We wanted to create an event “by students, for students”. An event which brings together the emotional, high-pressure and competitive side of basketball with the respect, fair-play and friendship that resides both on and off the court. Ten minute quarters all around, certified referees and high standard facilities all guaranteed a first-class sporting eventfor both players and spectators.

THE TEAMS

  1. Brasov Brasovia – The local team succeeded in lifting the trophy at the end of the tournament in what was an intense final.
  2. Royal Holloway, University of London - The runners-up proved their quality during the entire tournament, from group stage to the final.
  3. Lucian Blaga University of Sibiu – Losing several key games on a slight one digit lead, the team from Sibiu proved their quality and talent on the court.
  4. SOAS, University of London – Last but not least, the team from London made up in spirit what it was lacking in numbers. Quality basketball and good vibes all around.
